A student asked: “Teacher, how can I learn to forgive?” The teacher replied: “Learn not to be offended.”
Indeed, we need to understand people and agree with them in advance that offending others and being offended is a pure product of human egoistic nature, which makes each person wish to view themselves in a better position than others.
Learning not to be offended is thus work with one’s own ego, the feeling of our very self. However, we should identify motions to offend others or being offended as part and parcel of human nature, and not justify ourselves trying to rise up against it.
It comes with age that we start feeling and understanding that being offended is human nature and that there is no point in being offended. Here, I speak of beyond 70 years of age. Before that, we are still children.
