How Do You Protect Your Mental Health?

Protecting yourself mentally does not mean putting up walls or shielding yourself from the world. Instead, it is about learning to flow harmoniously with nature and the people around you. The idea that out of fearing blows, we close ourselves off or armor up is a mindset that keeps us disconnected and vulnerable in the long run. True mental strength comes from connection, not isolation.

We live on one planet, and all life—human, animal, and plant—is interconnected. When we adopt a friendly and cooperative attitude toward others and the environment, we align ourselves with nature’s interconnected form. This mindset is not philosophical; it directly influences our mental state. By cultivating positive human connections and a sense of responsibility for the world around us, we create a healthier and more supportive environment, which in turn positively affects our mental health.

Our thoughts possess immense power. They operate at nature’s highest level and their influence extends to humanity’s and the planet’s collective consciousness. Thinking toward others out of love, consideration, and kindness thus positively impacts the world around us in indirect and non-immediate ways. By embracing this understanding, we can shift from an individualistic survival mindset to one that thrives on cooperation and mutual care.

We would thus be wise to emphasize education of connection-enhancing values in order to start feeling like one group of eight billion people around the world. Indeed, we are not enjoying perfect relations right now, and so we should think how we are living here, about how nature exists in a perfect balance of altruistically-bonded connections, and what we should do to rise above our inborn egoistic state where we prioritize self-benefit over benefiting others, to relations where we consider the benefit of all people and nature, first and foremost. That outward-directed focus on benefiting others is what will ultimately give us what we need to live balanced, harmonious, and peaceful lives, and which will secure good mental health for all of us in the process.
