It seems to us that intelligence is cold, sterile, and unemotional, but our nature is ultimately a desire to enjoy. If we thus have the ability to optimally connect with others in order to enjoy life and to also bring other people delight, then such intelligence will propel us forward to enjoy harmonious, peaceful, and fulfilling lives.
That is social intelligence. It is the ability to optimally connect with others in order to enjoy life and to delight others.
We are feeling and sentient beings. The desire to enjoy is our nature. Therefore, our intellect, our mind is tuned toward how to enjoy our relationships with others.
Social intelligence is important because a lack of such intelligence makes us suffer from our interactions in life. When we lack social intelligence, then we fail to understand how much we stand to lose by failing to invest in positively connecting with others. We then lack the knowledge of how to positively connect with others and enjoy our interaction with them. This goes for every relationship in every sphere of life: with our children, spouses, relatives, friends, acquaintances, and through to the whole of humanity.
Based on the video “Why Is Social Intelligence Important?” with Kabbalist Dr. Michael Laitman. Written/edited by students of Kabbalist Dr. Michael Laitman.
